Swing

It was their last chance to show their skills.
Baseball has been a real highlight for the boys this Spring.
And lucky boys had M there to watch today.
And after the innings are played there's a little time for the park. That is quite a group of boys!!
Baseball 2013 is over for the year.
We tried out a new game this week called Syllables. The idea is that you think of the biggest word you can starting with whatever letter you land on.
Fifty points for each syllable and points for each letter somewhat like Scrabble.
The game suggests that parents be required to get about double the number of points that kids get.
Um ... that was harder than it sounded!! My kids know some good words.

That's 14

Happy Anniversary Husband.
Thank you for loving, protecting and caring for me these last 14 years.
In so many ways you're still the same man I married.
And in other ways we have changed together.
I love you!

Mate

Ask this boy to empty the dishwasher and you get a dish mushroom growing on the counter.
We had our last Chess meeting of the school year.
It's so nice to have a group of kids that can challenge each other.

Math?

We started a Monopoly game ... I mean math class ... last night before bed. But you know how those games go long. First thing after breakfast this a.m. we are back to the board. I have already been knocked out but these two continue to battle.

and then...and then....and then

I was in between the two boys yesterday at E's year end co-op presentation day.
He presented a retelling of a classic fairy tale that he had been practicing with his drama class.
And he was part of an ensemble group that performed a series of montages from SnowWhite.

Then the parents and other children meandered around and had a chance to see the island projects that all the kids had created.

Much to A's chagrin I 'strongly pressured' him into also bringing the project he had been working on at home to share with the group.
We let the g.pigs have some outside time. Then a bike ride before dinner. Then an impromptu neighbour get together on the front lawn until the wee hours. Wow ... now that I write it all out it sounds like we had a busy day. But it was all fun stuff so it didn't feel long.

Etc.

We didn't forget that yesterday was A's birthday .... it has been postponed until Saturday when he has the benefit of a full day with M around to celebrate.
It has been LEGO-mania around here.
... and more LEGO ... and more LEGO ....
And finally, hallelujah, a sunny day. We were not wasting one ray of that sunshine. So we took our pigs and our lunch and went to the yard.

Today is His Birthday

Sitting by the dock of the bay
Well that quite interlude lasted for about two seconds and then they were up synchro jumping on the docks.
This guy joined the double-digit club today. We always let the boys be the boss of the house on their birthdays. E asked that we go hunting for frogs (check), go out on the boat (check), eat dinner at IKEA (check), have a friend sleepover (check) and have homemade apple pie (cooling on stove presently).
I don't think he had his rod in the water for 2 minutes when he reeled in his first fish.
But see that second picture? The broken rod? That was from fish #2.
Meet fish #2. When E started to reel it in his rod snapped in half!
When the fish reached the surface we could see why.
E .... you are 10 years old .... and you are a fisherman.
I noticed on the way back to land that A and Granny were making plans for his day coming up.
I don't know if I like the looks of those smiles.

Friday Fun

So it's not quite their birthdays. Not quite the end of school.
But it seemed like a good day for a banana split snack.
There were no complaints.
There did seem to be a little bit of extra energy to burn after all that sugar.
And on the 'to school or not to school' front. We're getting it done.
