Something New for October

A friend mentioned something on her blog that linked to another blog that linked to another blog with a great idea. Each day in October write about something. Thirty-one posts about one topic. I'm still going to keep on with the pics and updates OF COURSE but also wanted to get on this bandwagon for the month.
Seeing as how it is the 4th of October I have a little catching up to do.
Here goes!

The Month of Recommending Good Kid Books

Nineteenth of Maquerk by Aaron Reynolds
This book is based on Proverbs 13:4. It has a great message that is delivered clearly to the under 6 year old crowd. Our copy of the book has large hard board pages so it has stood the test of time and toddler In addition, the illustrations are superb.

Slinki Malinki by Lynley Dodd
We started reading this book to our boys when they were very young. It's all about the cat in this book. So funny. The story is almost lyrical in the way it is written and the vocabulary is rich. Before long the boys were 'reading' along with us because they were able to remember the sentences. We got to add words like rapscallion to our vocabulary!

Tale of the Poisonous Yuck Bugs by Aaron Reynolds
This book is based on Proverbs 12:18. Same great large hard board format as the other book by this author. Another great story with a message. Aptly portrays how words can hurt and heal.

The Girl Who Hated Books by Manjusha Pawaki
We are a family that loves books. Buying them, reading them, saving them. Well, almost all of our family. We do have one reluctant reader who loves only to be read to! And this book struck a chord with him. He identified with this character and loved this story.
